How do I fix "Error: Cannot rename the HardwareTypes.xml to HardwareMaterials.xml when the HardwareMaterials.xml file already exists." message

When I run the latest MaxCut installer I get the following error message and the installer will not complete.

 "Error: Cannot rename the HardwareTypes.xml to HardwareMaterials.xml when the HardwareMaterials.xml file already exists."

How do I fix this?

  To fix this issue you need to close the MaxCut Installer, delete the “HardwareTypes.xml” file located at “C:\ProgramData\MaxCut Software\MaxCut” and then rerun the MaxCut Installer again afterwards.

  There are two ways you can do this:

  Option 1 - via Windows Explorer

  1. Close the MaxCut Installer.
  2. Open Windows Explorer by clicking on the Start button, searching for “File Explorer” in the search bar, and selecting the “File Explorer” app from the search results.
  3. In the address bar at the top of the window, manually enter or copy and paste the following path: “C:\ProgramData\MaxCut Software\MaxCut”. Press Enter or click the arrow button next to the address bar.
  4. Locate the “HardwareTypes.xml” file in the folder.
  5. Right-click on the file and choose “Delete” from the context menu.
  6. Confirm the deletion when prompted.
  7. Finally, run the MaxCut Installer again to proceed with the installation or any necessary actions.

  

  Option 2 - via the Run Dialog

  1. Close the MaxCut Installer.
  2. Click on the Start button or press the Windows key, then type “Run” in the search bar and select the “Run” app from the search results (alternatively, press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box).
  3. In the Run dialog box, paste the following command:

     cmd /c del "C:\ProgramData\MaxCut Software\MaxCut\HardwareTypes.xml"
     

  4. Press Enter to execute the command.
  5. Finally, run the MaxCut Installer again to proceed with the installation or any necessary actions.
