Tom, thank you for the message, and apologies for an extremely delayed response.

I would love to understand how dimensional lumber works so that we could look at adding it to the program. Could you explain what is different between dimensional lumber and plywood panels so I can understand it better?

    Some notes about dimensioned lumber.

An example of dimension lumber can be found at Lowe's.  It shows the height x width x length that Lowe's has available.

Let's say you are using dimensioned lumber to make a frame of a cupboard and you need it in 4 lengths of 500mm long (effectively 2m in total). Let's say you can only buy the dimension lumber in 1m and 3m lengths.

In MaxCut we want it to work out which piece is the best one to buy and how many lengths. So in this instance it should suggest 2 x 1m lengths?

I agree that help with dimensional lumber would be a huge plus.  To some extent it has the basics already. But when you go to buy dimensional hardwood for example is usually about board feet -- a concept that uses basic formulas to calculate. What if MaxCut offered not a cut-list but a tool that let you input lumber sizes and it told you how many board feet you need along with a list of specific board dimensions with counts. So it would be more of a purchasing-support aid than a cutting-support tool. Half formed thought, apologies.
